The Mission of The VNG Purple Rose Fund:
In February of 2021 the world lost a beautiful, strong soul, Vanessa Good to Pancreatic Cancer. She fought a 5 year long battle having beaten the disease once and then was diagnosed with a rare second primary tumor. Yet through all of the trips to the University of Pennsylvania, all of the treatments and all of the ups and downs she never ever gave up and continued to have her quick wit and infectious laughter light up the room. She beat the odds many times over throughout her battle with her philosophy always being to never ever give up.
After visiting Donegal Square her intellectual curiosity of genealogy led to countless hours of extensive research and connections to a long lineage of family, dating back to Maghera, Ireland in the 18th Century which she was able to visit in 2019 thank you to Neville and his help to plan it.
Vanessa was passionate about being an advocate for education and fought to make sure that every child had equal opportunity access to programs, education, training and technology regardless of their race, ethnicity, socio-economic background or gender identification. Her goal was to see that no child was unable to fulfill their individual potential and pursue their dreams.
Unbeknownst to her family and friends Vanessa wrote in her journal that she wanted her legacy to continue after her passing by having a foundation created to continue her work.
And the Vanessa Noble Good Purple Rose Foundation was born.
In partnership with the Upper Dublin Education Foundation, The Vanessa Noble Good Purple Rose Fund will help to level the playing field and give equitable access to enrichment opportunity and educational advancement for any and all under served students and those in need regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic background and gender identification.
This fund supports 2 annual scholarships as well as relevant District initiatives.
Vanessa also cared deeply and was involved in helping others who had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer by sharing her story, helping them navigate treatments and coping with their diagnosis.
The founding members of the VNG Purple Rose Fund are continuing her efforts by supporting The Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network), The Lustgarten Cancer Foundation.
